The Plano Public Library is set to host a diverse range of programs throughout February 2024, aimed at engaging community members of all ages. From creative workshops to informative sessions with local officials, the library offers something for everyone.

Creative Workshops and Classes

The library invites aspiring writers to join the Writers Group on Thursdays, February 1, 15, and 29, from 18:30 to 20:00. Participants can discuss their work in a supportive environment, with sessions available both in person and via Zoom. This program is open to adults and high school students, and no registration is required.

For those looking to improve their mood and reduce stress, certified instructor Jen Penn will lead a series of yoga classes on Fridays, February 2, 9, 16, and 23, from 10:30 to 11:30. The welcoming atmosphere encourages all skill levels to participate. Attendees should bring their own mats or use those provided by the library. Registration is necessary for each class.

Art enthusiasts can take part in a painting class on Monday, February 5, from 18:30 to 20:00, led by an artist from The Petite Palette. Participants will create an acrylic painting on canvas, with a fee of $15 payable at registration.

Another opportunity to unleash creativity will occur on Saturday, February 10, with a Card Making Class focusing on triangle embossed cards. Participants will create five handmade cards, with all supplies provided. The class is open to adults, high school students, and children aged 10 and older, accompanied by an adult. A $5 fee applies.

Community Support and Educational Programs

The library will also host a Technology Help Desk on Tuesday, February 6, from 12:00 to 13:00. Attendees can receive assistance with various devices from tech expert Steve Goodwin. This drop-in service does not require prior registration.

On Saturday, February 14, from 10:30 to 12:00, community members can participate in the New Life for Old Bags initiative, transforming plastic shopping bags into sleeping mats for the homeless. For more details, interested individuals should contact Ceil Carey at [email protected].

Additionally, constituents seeking assistance can meet with a representative from Senator Sue Rezin during her traveling office hours on Tuesday, February 20, from 12:30 to 14:00. No registration is needed for this service.

The library also features a variety of programs for children and teens. The Bookworms program on Tuesday, February 3, from 17:00 to 17:45, invites independent students in grades K-3 to engage in stories, crafts, and healthy snacks.

For ages 6-10, a painting session titled “Truffula Trees” will take place on Thursday, February 5, from 16:45 to 17:45, followed by a session for ages 10-18 focusing on “Galaxy” from 18:15 to 19:15. Registration is required for these events, and a fee of $5 is applicable.
