Renfrew County District School Board Launches Strategic Plan for 2026-2030

The Renfrew County District School Board (RCDSB) has launched its new 2026–30 Strategic Plan, outlining key priorities for students and staff through to 2030. This initiative follows an extensive consultation process that included over 50 engagement sessions and garnered more than 2,600 survey responses from students, families, and staff. According to a press release from the board, this level of public feedback is unprecedented, highlighting community involvement in shaping the board’s future direction.

“This plan is a true reflection of our community’s voice,” said board chairman Leo Boland. He emphasized the importance of the input received, stating that it has informed the board’s priorities aimed at ensuring every learner achieves personal success.

Strategic Priorities for Student Success

The 2026–30 Strategic Plan identifies three main strategic priorities. The first focuses on Indigenous education, committing to integrate Indigenous histories and perspectives across all subjects while enhancing support for Indigenous students. This initiative aims to create a more inclusive educational environment.

The second priority revolves around developing foundational and future-ready skills. The RCDSB aims to improve student achievement in literacy and math, alongside expanding learning opportunities in fields such as artificial intelligence, digital citizenship, financial literacy, and career readiness. These efforts are designed to equip students with the skills needed for success in an evolving job market.

The third priority emphasizes well-being and belonging. The board plans to foster school environments that prioritize students’ mental and physical health, ensuring a sense of belonging for both students and staff.

Commitment to Continuous Improvement

Director of Education Kristen Niemi stated that the plan is fundamentally rooted in the success and well-being of all RCDSB learners. “At the heart of our 2026–30 strategic plan is an unwavering commitment to the achievement and well-being of all RCDSB learners,” Niemi noted. “We want every student graduating from the RCDSB to have the knowledge, skills, and confidence to thrive in a rapidly changing world.”

Board officials recognize the growing expectations for schools to prepare students not only academically but also socially and digitally. As technology and workforce demands evolve, the RCDSB is dedicated to adapting its educational framework.

The board will provide regular updates on the implementation of the strategic plan, allowing families and stakeholders to monitor progress and engage in the process. “We look forward to partnering with every member of the RCDSB community to implement this plan,” Niemi added. “Accomplishing these ambitious goals over the next four years will require collective focus and teamwork.”
