Quebec Cannabis Recall: Elevated Arsenic Levels Prompt Urgent Action

Health Canada, in collaboration with Quebec producer Great White North Growers Inc., has initiated a recall of certain Lunaire Nouvelle Lune dried cannabis products due to elevated levels of arsenic, a toxic heavy metal. The recall, announced on January 12, 2026, specifically targets 3.5-gram packages of the affected product, identified by lot number 1001470A, which were packaged on October 31, 2025 and distributed through authorized retailers in Quebec, including the Société Québécoise du Cannabis (SQDC).

Arsenic is a naturally occurring element that can pose significant health risks when ingested in high concentrations. Prolonged exposure to arsenic has been linked to serious health issues, including an increased risk of cancer and potential damage to vital organs such as the skin, lungs, heart, brain, and kidneys. Additionally, exposure during pregnancy or breastfeeding can have harmful effects.

The recall was prompted by non-routine testing conducted by Great White North Growers Inc., revealing contamination in the specific lot. Approximately 869 units of the affected product were sold between October 31, 2025 and January 13, 2026. As of now, no health complaints or adverse reactions associated with this product have been reported.

Consumer Guidance on the Recall

In light of the potential health risks, Health Canada and Great White North Growers Inc. are advising consumers who purchased the recalled products to cease use immediately. Customers can return any unopened products to the retailer where they were purchased or dispose of opened products safely, ensuring they are out of reach of children and youth.

Individuals experiencing health or safety issues related to this or any other cannabis products are encouraged to complete Health Canada’s Cannabis Reporting Form available online. It is important to note that this recall is limited to the specified lot, and other Lunaire cannabis products remain unaffected.
