Sudbury Entrepreneur Blends Science and Beauty in New Cosmetics Line

A new cosmetic brand in Sudbury, Ontario, is gaining attention for its scientific approach to beauty products. Founded by Florish Adebayo, Beiwty Rishrish Cosmetics stands out with a commitment to non-toxic and cruelty-free formulations. Adebayo, who holds a degree in biochemistry from Laurentian University, has designed her products to cater specifically to individuals with sensitive and eczema-prone skin.

In her newly established workshop on Barrydowne Road, Adebayo meticulously oversees the development of her products. Each item undergoes rigorous testing to ensure quality and safety before reaching consumers. Recently, she celebrated her graduation and her success in two business pitch competitions, including one organized by the Northern Ontario Black Economic Empowerment Program.

Adebayo’s brand name reflects her philosophy on beauty; it is intentionally spelled as “Beiwty” to highlight the subjective nature of beauty. The second part of the name, “Rishrish,” is a nod to her nickname. Her product line includes lip balms, oils, scrubs, and a full range of makeup, all formulated with scientifically backed ingredients.

The entrepreneur’s interest in skincare stems from her personal battle with eczema, a condition she has dealt with since childhood. Adebayo’s academic background enabled her to conduct extensive research on eczema, including an undergraduate thesis that examined the effects of antibiotic use on hydrogen sulfide generation in mouse tissue.

“I got frustrated, and when I was 17, I said I couldn’t take it anymore,” she recalled. “I started doing research, even before I got into Laurentian. I started making products, but hadn’t opened the business.”

In 2021, while in her first year at university, Adebayo initiated a trial of her products among friends, who encouraged her to pursue her passion commercially. This led to her first pop-up market on campus, which quickly gained popularity and prompted her to expand her offerings.

Adebayo emphasizes the importance of affordability, particularly for those suffering from skin conditions. She has found relief from her eczema through her body oils, which include a blend of castor, jojoba, coconut, and sweet almond oils. “I use this every single day, and it controls my flare-ups,” she stated. “I haven’t had flare-ups in such a long time.”

The body oils are available in both fragranced and unscented options for sensitive skin. Another notable product is her shea butter and mango body yogurt, which, despite its name, contains no yogurt but features a soothing combination of water, oils, and oatmeal.

To maintain quality control, Adebayo produces all items by hand and in small batches. Looking ahead, she aspires to scale her operations. “In the future, I want a bigger lab,” she said. “If I can find a lab that can manufacture my products for me with my formulas, that would be amazing.”

Consumers can purchase Beiwty Rishrish Cosmetics through the company website at www.beiwtyrish.com or at the Sudbury Market on Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Elm Place Mall. For updates, follow the brand on Facebook and Instagram.
