Chatham Couple to Celebrate Wedding at Windsor Spitfires Game
A couple from Chatham, Ontario, has decided to exchange vows in a unique setting—on the ice of the WFCU Centre during a Windsor Spitfires hockey game. Sheldon Cadotte, 30, and Daylene Trudell, 27, will officially tie the knot on January 8, 2025, at the venue, coinciding with a match against the Erie Otters.
This innovative wedding ceremony will occur during the second intermission of the game, allowing approximately 6,000 fans to witness the event. The couple has enlisted local wedding officiant Joe McParland to preside over the ceremony, which will also feature the Spitfires mascots—Bomber, Ace, and Spike—as witnesses.
For Trudell, the choice of venue is deeply personal. “I grew up going to hockey games my whole life. I actually got Cadotte into going to OHL hockey games,” she explained to CBC Windsor. Her father played hockey, making arenas a familiar environment throughout her childhood.
Special Collaboration with the Spitfires
The couple’s wedding has been in the planning stages for several months, following Cadotte’s proposal on the very same ice during a Spitfires game in April 2025. Although marriage proposals have taken place at the arena before, this marks the first time the team will host an actual wedding on the ice, a milestone that has excited both the couple and the Spitfires organization.
Remo Agostino, the Spitfires’ brand manager, expressed the team’s commitment to making the couple’s day special. “They won’t be paying for a thing,” Agostino stated. “This is a big moment for them, a lifetime moment. We want to ensure they get all the bells and whistles.” The couple will receive a suite for their friends and family, transforming the wedding into a memorable experience.
Cadotte and Trudell, who have been together for eight years, have recently become devoted fans of the Spitfires. Trudell previously supported the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds, while Cadotte was a fan of the Niagara IceDogs. Their shift to the Spitfires has been driven by the team’s spirit and dedication. “They put everything on the line when they go out there,” Cadotte remarked, especially highlighting the team’s performance against London.
A Night of Celebration
The wedding date also coincides with the birthday of music legend Elvis Presley. The WFCU Centre plans to celebrate this occasion with themed music and decorations during the game, branding the evening as “a night of rock ‘n’ roll and romance.”
“Why not?” Cadotte responded when asked about the unconventional wedding setting. Trudell agreed, adding, “It’s a unique experience.”
As excitement builds for the event, the couple is set to make a lasting memory, blending their love for each other with their passion for hockey. The Windsor Spitfires’ innovative approach to hosting this wedding not only highlights their community spirit but also provides a one-of-a-kind experience for the couple and their guests.
