Illinois Valley PADS Provides Critical Support to Homeless Families
Illinois Valley Public Action to Deliver Shelter (IV PADS) has been a cornerstone for vulnerable populations in the Illinois Valley since its establishment in 1991. This not-for-profit organization focuses on delivering essential services such as shelter, food, and support to individuals and families facing homelessness.
The organization operates emergency shelters in both Peru and Ottawa, Illinois, providing a safe haven for those in need. IV PADS is committed to addressing immediate needs while fostering long-term stability for its clients. Its shelters are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, from August 1 through May 31, ensuring that individuals have access to a secure environment during the most critical months of the year.
During the most recent shelter season, IV PADS served a total of 578 individuals, including 42 families with 87 children. This increase in service underscores both the escalating need in the region and the ongoing commitment of the local community to support the mission of IV PADS. In addition to providing a safe place to sleep, the organization distributed 89,958 meals, offering three nutritious meals each day to those residing in its shelters.
Comprehensive Services Beyond Shelter
IV PADS does not limit its assistance to mere shelter and food provision. The organization emphasizes helping clients achieve independence through various supportive services. This includes case management and personalized service plans, as well as programs focused on employment, budgeting, parenting classes, mental health support, and life skills training.
To maintain family unity, IV PADS offers family rooms designed to keep households together. The organization also collaborates with community partners to provide essential housing assistance. For those interested in spiritual growth, optional Bible-centered groups are available for participants seeking encouragement.
The impact of IV PADS is evident in the testimonies of those it serves and the community’s unwavering support. Through dedicated care, collaboration, and a commitment to uplifting neighbors in need, IV PADS continues to be a vital resource in the Illinois Valley.
