Martyn Wells Showcases Unique Wood Creations at Carnegie Arts Centre
Martyn Wells will unveil his first solo exhibition, titled “Woodn’t It Be Nice,” at the Carnegie Arts & Visitor Centre from March 1 to March 25, 2026. This exhibition, produced in collaboration with the Arts Society of Kingsville (ASK), will feature a diverse range of Wells’ 2D and 3D wooden creations, showcasing his extensive craftsmanship over more than two decades.
Wells’ artistic journey with wood has led him to master the unique textures and grains of various hardwoods. His collection will include intricate 3D lighthouses and windmills alongside detailed relief carvings that depict dragons, fairies, unicorns, and religious figures. “I have progressed from making simple signs, to more complex sculptures and themes; some are only 6 inches in diameter, while others tower over 3 feet high,” Wells stated. He emphasized that “nature is full of inspiration,” and highlighted his research efforts through the internet to enhance his craft. The artist primarily uses hardwoods such as maple, ash, and walnut for his best carvings.
Wells is an active member of several art organizations, including the Leamington Arts Centre (LAC), the Gibson Gallery, and the Walkerville Arts Collective (WAC). His work has frequently appeared in group exhibitions and has been displayed and sold at various events across South Western Ontario. Notable showcases include Lavenderfest, The Uncommon Festival, and Art by the River, among others.
Event Details and Reception
The exhibition will kick off with a reception on March 1, 2026, from 1 PM to 4 PM, inviting art enthusiasts and the public to meet the artist and explore his creations. The Carnegie Arts & Visitor Centre is located at 28 Division Street South, Kingsville, and will be open from Wednesday to Sunday, 10 AM to 4 PM, closing on Tuesdays.
This exhibition is anticipated to highlight the intricate artistry of Wells and his profound connection to the natural world. It promises to be a captivating experience for visitors and a testament to the rich artistic community in Kingsville.
