Remembering Jean Lilly Cameron: A Life of Perseverance and Joy
Jean Lilly Cameron, formerly known as Jean Roberton, passed away peacefully at the age of 84 on August 3, 2025, at Cowichan District Hospital in Duncan, British Columbia. Born on July 6, 1941, in Bjorkdale, Saskatchewan, Jean was the cherished youngest child and only daughter of Frederick Redvers Roberton and Nellie Noreen White. Her life was characterized by resilience, kindness, and an enduring spirit that touched all who knew her.
From a young age, Jean demonstrated a passion for sports and outdoor activities, often finding herself in the company of her three older brothers. She excelled in swimming, horseback riding, and competitive figure skating, showcasing her competitive nature and love for physical activity. After completing her education, Jean pursued a career in nursing, aligning perfectly with her compassionate and sociable character.
Throughout her life, Jean faced significant challenges, including two battles against cancer. In her twenties and again in her forties, she triumphed over the disease, exemplifying remarkable strength and determination. Her dedication to nursing allowed her to care for others, reflecting the supportive nature that defined her relationships.
In retirement, Jean remained active, embracing her love for travel, volunteer work, and various hobbies, including bowling, crocheting, and cooking. Known for her engaging personality, she was often described as a social butterfly, radiating laughter and positivity wherever she went.
Jean is survived by her loving husband, Doug Greene; her brother, Jack Roberton; and her three daughters: Kimberlee Cameron-Friel, Jacqueline Nicolson (Doug), and Patricia Welch (George). She also leaves behind two granddaughters, Kristen Al-Aamri (Giyab) and Alexandria Nicolson, along with her great-grandsons, Mohammad and Colten. Numerous family members and friends will remember her fondly. She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Kenneth and Lorne Roberton.
In accordance with Jean’s wishes, her family has decided not to hold a service. Instead, her ashes will be interred alongside her parents in Schumacher, Ontario. The family expresses heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Mohammud Ibrahim and the nursing staff at Cowichan District Hospital for their compassionate care and support during her final days.
