Steelers Honor Mei, Jordin, and Milosevich for Community Service

The Sault Steelers recently recognized several community members for their outstanding contributions during an awards ceremony held on December 23, 1975. Among those honored were Don Mei, Brad Jordin, and Vern Milosevich, who have made significant impacts in their local community through various initiatives.

This year’s awards came amidst a festive atmosphere, as children from St. Bernadette School ensured that Santa Claus enjoyed a hearty breakfast during his visit to the junior and senior kindergarten class. In a display of community spirit, the Christmas Cheer initiative successfully assisted approximately 750 families by providing hampers filled with turkeys or chickens, as well as toys for children. Donations to The Sault Star’s Christmas fund reached an impressive total of $11,685.40, showcasing the generosity of local citizens. “Please thank the city for me,” expressed Joyce Curry, the convener of Christmas Cheer.

The awards night not only celebrated individual achievements but also highlighted the ongoing efforts to give back to the community. The recognition of Mei, Jordin, and Milosevich serves as a reminder of the importance of volunteerism and community support in ensuring that everyone has a joyful holiday season.

In addition to community recognitions, the local arts scene is also thriving. Members of the Sault Theatre Workshop are preparing for their upcoming production of *Dracula*, featuring a talented cast, including Keith Knight, Tony Chapman, Tom Hendrie, and Cheryl Montgomery. This production promises to add an exciting cultural dimension to the holiday season.

Reflecting on past efforts, the Sault Star Santa Claus Fund provided holiday cheer for approximately 200 individuals in 1950, helping 57 families with a total donation of $820.39. The fund has consistently served as a lifeline for those in need, demonstrating the community’s commitment to supporting its most vulnerable members.

As the holiday season approaches, the spirit of giving remains strong in the community, with various events and initiatives aimed at bringing joy to those less fortunate. It is through the combined efforts of individuals and organizations that the true meaning of the season is brought to life.
