Transport Canada has announced a significant recall affecting over 300,000 Ford vehicles due to a potential risk of short circuits that could lead to fires. The recalls, which were first published on January 9, 2024, and updated on a recent Thursday, highlight concerns regarding engine block heaters in specific models.

In the first recall, vehicles equipped with a 2.0 L engine are primarily affected. The models included in this recall are the Ford Escape (model years 2013 to 2019), Ford Focus (model years 2013 to 2018), and the Lincoln MKC (model years 2015 and 2016). According to the recall notices, a coolant leak from the engine block heater could cause a short circuit when plugged in, posing a fire hazard.

The second recall, which replaces the previous Transport Canada recall number 2025-554, involves additional models experiencing the same issue with engine block heaters. The affected vehicles under this recall include:

Ford Bronco (model years 2021 to 2024)
Ford Bronco Sport (model years 2021 to 2024)
Ford Escape (model years 2020 to 2022)
Ford Explorer (model years 2016 to 2024)
Ford Focus (model years 2016 to 2018)
Ford Maverick (model years 2022 to 2024)
Ford Ranger (model years 2019 to 2024)
Lincoln Corsair (model years 2020 to 2022)
Lincoln MKC (model years 2016 to 2019)

As part of the recall process, Ford will notify owners by mail, advising them to bring their vehicles to authorized dealerships for the necessary repairs. In the interim, owners are strongly urged not to use the engine block heater until the issue has been resolved.

This recall underscores the importance of addressing potential safety risks in automotive design and manufacturing, ensuring the safety of drivers and passengers alike.
