Samsung Galaxy S26 Edge Gains Certification, Launch Still Possible
The future of the Samsung Galaxy S26 Edge appears more promising as it has received certification from the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS). The device, identified by the model number SM-S947B/DS, suggests that it may still be in the running for a launch after initial reports indicated otherwise.
According to renowned tipster Ice Universe, Samsung is currently evaluating market conditions before making a final decision on the device’s release. He indicated that the Galaxy S26 Edge is “nearly complete” and that canceling it now would represent a significant loss for the company. Ice Universe also mentioned that the Galaxy S26 Edge could launch independently, similar to how the Galaxy S25 Edge was released.
Initially, Samsung had planned to unveil the Galaxy S26 series, which was set to include the Galaxy S26 Pro, Galaxy S26 Edge, and Galaxy S26 Ultra. However, the company has since shifted its focus, with the upcoming lineup now featuring the Galaxy S26, Galaxy S26+, and Galaxy S26 Ultra. The decision to pause the S26 Edge’s development reportedly stemmed from sluggish sales of its predecessor, the Galaxy S25 Edge, coupled with a decline in consumer interest in ultra-thin smartphones.
Despite the challenges surrounding its launch, Ice Universe remains optimistic about the Galaxy S26 Edge’s future. He speculated that Samsung might still opt to release the device at some point, potentially as early as 2026, given that the phone is essentially ready for market.
The main Galaxy S26 series is expected to make its debut on February 25, 2024, with devices likely to be available for purchase in early March. While the exact details remain unconfirmed, leaked designs for both the Galaxy S26+ and Galaxy S26 Ultra have already surfaced, generating excitement among tech enthusiasts.
As the launch date approaches, many will be watching closely to see if Samsung decides to revive the Galaxy S26 Edge as part of its flagship offerings. The success or failure of this decision could have broader implications for the company’s strategy in the competitive smartphone market.
