Takway Unveils Sweekar: A New AI Companion for 2026
At CES 2026, technology company Takway introduced the Sweekar, an innovative AI-powered companion designed to bring a new twist to the beloved concept of virtual pets. This physical toy draws inspiration from the iconic Tamagotchi, a digital pet that became a cultural sensation in the late 1990s, capturing the hearts of children and adults alike. While Tamagotchis have transitioned to mobile applications, the Sweekar aims to revive the tactile experience of caring for a virtual pet.
What Makes Sweekar Unique?
Unlike the original Tamagotchi, the Sweekar is a standalone creation, not officially branded by the Tamagotchi name. It features a physical form that allows users to interact with it in a more meaningful way. With built-in AI capabilities, the Sweekar acts as a smart companion that responds to user interactions. Players will feed, play, and care for their Sweekar, which comes equipped with a screen to display its emotional state.
The Sweekar starts its life as an egg, undergoing a two-day incubation period before hatching. After emerging from its shell, the user must nurture it through various stages of development, from baby to teen, ultimately reaching adulthood. Once matured, the Sweekar becomes more independent, able to embark on virtual adventures without constant attention. This growth cycle adds an engaging layer to the experience, catering to users who appreciate a sense of progression.
Long-Term Engagement and Pricing
One of the standout features of the Sweekar is its longevity. Upon reaching level 51, the Sweekar becomes “unkillable,” meaning it can exist as long as the hardware functions properly and it remains charged. This aspect positions the Sweekar as a more durable alternative to traditional digital pets, potentially appealing to a modern audience.
Pricing has not been officially announced, but early estimates suggest that the Sweekar will retail between $100 and $150. Takway has indicated intentions to launch a Kickstarter campaign to support the product’s development. The excitement surrounding the Sweekar is palpable, especially considering the recent popularity of similar toys, such as the Labubu dolls, which have captured consumer interest.
As the launch date remains uncertain, the Sweekar has the potential to become one of the standout toys of 2026. With its combination of AI technology and physical interaction, it seeks to reignite the joy of virtual pets for a new generation. The question now is whether this innovative approach will resonate with consumers and effectively capture the magic of the original Tamagotchi while offering a fresh experience.
