Beaver Bank Man Arrested for Second-Degree Murder After Assault
Police have charged a 20-year-old man with second-degree murder following the death of a 28-year-old male in Beaver Bank, located north of Halifax. The incident occurred on the evening of March 15, 2024, prompting a swift response from law enforcement and emergency medical services.
According to a news release from the Halifax Regional Police, officers were dispatched to a residence on Beaver Bank Road around 20:00 after receiving reports of an assault. Upon arrival, they discovered the victim suffering from life-threatening injuries. Despite immediate first aid efforts, the man succumbed to his injuries at the scene.

Authorities quickly apprehended the suspect, identified as Evan Wheaton, near the location of the incident. He was taken into custody without further complications. The police confirmed that Wheaton is expected to make his first appearance at Dartmouth Provincial Court on March 18, 2024.
Investigators from the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) stated that both individuals were known to each other, indicating that the assault was not a random act. The police have emphasized that their investigation is ongoing and are actively seeking additional information from the public.
