He received the esteemed Sport BC Presidents’ Award, an annual accolade that honors individuals who exemplify outstanding volunteerism within Sport BC member organizations. This recognition highlights the significant contributions of those who devote their time and energy to the development of sports and community programs.

Ewashen has had a distinguished career, notably as an educator and a school board trustee for School District 86. His involvement with the BC Senior Games began in 2000 when he registered to compete in tennis at the games held in Kelowna. This initial participation ignited a passion for volunteering that led him to become actively engaged with the Senior Games Society. He took on the role of director for Zone 7 East Kootenay and served on various committees, including the Nominating Committee and the Development Committee.

Under Ewashen’s leadership, the Senior Games Society saw an influx of new members and benefited from his valuable insights into policy and procedure development. His commitment to volunteerism over the past 24 years has made a lasting impact on the lives of participants across British Columbia. The BC Senior Games Society expressed their gratitude in a press release, stating, “We are thankful to Bob for his incredible volunteer contributions throughout the past 24 years. His leadership, steadfast approach, and quiet determination made a positive difference in participants’ lives in the Chutneys and throughout BC.”

Notably, he achieved a silver medal in eight-ball at the 2025 55+ BC Games held in Nanaimo. He values the camaraderie that comes with competition and appreciates the importance of staying socially and physically active, frequently visiting the local recreation center gymnasium.

Reflecting on his extensive volunteer journey, Ewashen remarked that he has “no regrets” and continues to serve as a role model and inspiration to others in the community. His dedication showcases the spirit of volunteerism and the positive effects it can have on both individuals and society as a whole.
