Max Scherzer, the renowned three-time Cy Young Award winner, has finalized a US$3 million, one-year contract with the Toronto Blue Jays, as reported by a source close to the negotiations on March 7, 2024. This development comes just two weeks into spring training, marking Scherzer’s return to the team he played for in the previous season, where he contributed to their journey to the postseason.

The deal, which remains contingent upon a successful physical examination, was confirmed by a person who requested anonymity due to the lack of an official announcement. Should he meet performance benchmarks, Scherzer could earn an additional US$10 million in bonuses throughout the season.

Last Season’s Performance and Career Highlights

During his time with the Blue Jays in 2023, Scherzer recorded a 5.19 ERA over 17 starts, finishing with a 5-5 win-loss record across 85 innings. He played a pivotal role in the playoffs, securing a victory against the Seattle Mariners in Game 4 of the American League Championship Series.
