United Airlines Launches 10 New Ultra-Long Routes for 2026
United Airlines is expanding its reach in the long-haul market with the announcement of ten new ultra-long-haul routes scheduled for 2026. This initiative will see the airline operate an average of 148 long-haul departures daily in the first half of the year, reflecting a year-over-year increase of 4%. With this expansion, United solidifies its position as the largest operator of long-haul flights globally, particularly to Asia, Australasia, Europe, and the Middle East.
According to United’s flight schedule submission to Cirium Diio, these new routes will contribute to a total of approximately 6% of the airline’s overall services. The expansion includes flights that will operate up to 18 hours nonstop, underscoring the airline’s commitment to connecting distant markets more efficiently.
Highlights of United’s Longest Flights
The longest flight planned by United will connect San Francisco to Singapore, with a maximum block time of up to 17 hours and 40 minutes. This route features two daily flights using the Boeing 787-9 aircraft. Following closely, the Houston Intercontinental to Sydney route will clock in at 17 hours and 35 minutes, operating daily on a seasonal basis.
The table below outlines United’s ten longest scheduled flights for the first half of 2026, based on maximum block times:

Expanding Footprint in Asia
The route from San Francisco to Singapore marks a significant milestone for United, which began operating this nonstop service in 2016. The airline previously offered one-stop flights through Tokyo Narita and Hong Kong, but the nonstop route has proven popular. Data from the US Department of Transportation reveals that United transported 292,000 round-trip passengers between these two cities from November 2024 to October 2025, achieving a load factor of 78%.
The San Francisco-Singapore route is now the fourth most trafficked Asian market from the airline’s Northern California hub, following Hong Kong, Taipei, and Seoul. The local market is robust, with approximately 206,000 round-trip passengers recorded in the past year, contributing to a substantial average fare of $1,970 for one-way tickets.
As part of its competitive strategy, United Airlines coexists with Singapore Airlines, which operates two daily flights on the Airbus A350-900. The growing demand for premium service on this route demonstrates the changing landscape of international travel, where speed and efficiency are highly valued.
In summary, United Airlines’ plans to expand its ultra-long-haul routes for 2026 not only enhance its operational capabilities but also reflect the increasing demand for direct flights across the globe. As the airline prepares to take off on these new journeys, both business and leisure travelers can look forward to more convenient connections to some of the world’s most sought-after destinations.
