Brandon University Hosts Jazz Festival and Key Events This March

Brandon University is gearing up for an exciting series of events this March, highlighted by the annual Jazz Festival. Scheduled from March 9 to March 11, 2026, the festival will feature a host of internationally acclaimed musicians. Showcase concerts will take place at the Western Manitoba Centennial Auditorium, with performances at 6:30 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. on both Thursday and Friday. Artists include drummer Queen Cora Coleman, known for her work with Prince and Beyoncé, alongside Juno nominees Shirantha Beddage and Erin Propp. Concert details and ticket purchases can be made through BUJazzFest.ca.

In addition to the festival, the university will host a Science Seminar Series featuring Parvin Ghafarian from the University of Northern British Columbia. His presentation on weather measurement simulations in bodies of water with complicated topography will take place on March 10 at 2:30 p.m.. Students facing a demanding semester can take advantage of the upcoming Long Night Against Procrastination, starting on the evening of March 18. This event will run from 7 p.m. to 2 a.m. at the John E. Robbins Library, providing a safe space for late-night studying. Participants can expect food, study assistance, and stress-relief activities designed to support academic success.

On March 19, Col. Evelyn Kotzer, commander of the 38 Canadian Brigade Group, will engage with students in a discussion about the Army Reserve. The talk will explore the role of part-time citizen soldiers in addressing contemporary challenges faced by Canada. The event will occur from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the John E. Robbins Library.

Assiniboine College is also hosting a variety of events this week. Graduation photos will be taken at the Victoria Avenue East campus on March 9 and March 10 in the ACSA Boardroom (room 415), with online bookings available at assiniboinestudents.ca.

The Cardboard Box Challenge, presented by Assiniboine’s Early Childhood Education program, is set for March 16. This initiative invites early learning centres and community members to engage in creative problem-solving using cardboard boxes and other materials. On March 19, students can explore career opportunities at the Career Fair, running from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.. Following this, alumni can join a networking mixer to strengthen professional connections.

Additionally, students seeking assistance with their taxes can access a free program coordinated by Prairie Mountain Health and approved by the Canada Revenue Agency. Eligible individuals can bring their paperwork to The Link at Mazergroup Main Street.

Lastly, the Women’s Resource Centre will be present at the Victoria Avenue East Campus on March 10 from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m., offering resources and support to students.

A highlight for food enthusiasts is the Foundation Legacy Gala Dinner on March 19, featuring a gourmet multi-course menu with wine pairings at the historic Manitoba Institute of Culinary Arts. Tickets for this exclusive event can be found at assiniboine.net/events.
