Kia has officially introduced sportier GT versions of its all-electric models, the EV3, EV4, and EV5, at the Brussels Motor Show. These new variants promise enhanced performance features aimed at a more dynamic driving experience, although their availability in different markets remains uneven. While the regular versions of the EV3 and EV4 are set to launch in Canada, the EV5 will not be sold in the U.S. market.

The GT models come equipped with dual motors for all-wheel drive (AWD), which enhances traction and power delivery. They feature advanced chassis tuning, an electronically-controlled suspension, and specific GT drive modes. Notably, these models will simulate the driving experience of gasoline vehicles through virtual gear shifts and sounds. Previously, Kia announced an EV9 GT; however, its launch in North America has faced delays.

Details on the EV4 and EV5 Models

The 2026 Kia EV4 is already available in Canada, featuring five trim levels with front-wheel drive (FWD) options ranging from $38,995 to $51,995. The electric motor generates 201 horsepower and 209 lb-ft of torque, with two battery size options that allow for a range of up to 391 km with the 58.3-kWh unit and up to 552 km with the 81.4-kWh variant.

The unveiled GT version of the EV4 is a hatchback configuration, which is anticipated to arrive in Canada, albeit in non-GT form. There is a strong desire among enthusiasts for the GT variant, especially given its potential for delivering instant torque typical of electric vehicles.

Kia’s compact SUV, the EV5, is also set to hit the Canadian market by the end of this year, with orders already being accepted. The pricing for the EV5 will range from $43,495 to $61,495, depending on the configuration. Like the EV4, the EV5 will be available in both FWD and AWD, with two battery options of 60.3-kWh and 81.4-kWh. However, estimates for its range are still pending. The model is not launching in the U.S., reportedly due to the discontinuation of government EV rebates that could have made it more appealing to buyers.

Introducing the All-New EV2

In addition to the GT models, Kia has introduced the all-new EV2, which is positioned as the smallest global electric vehicle in its lineup. Measuring 360 mm (approximately 14 inches) shorter than the Niro, the EV2 is designed with urban driving in mind. The vehicle offers two battery options, enabling a range of up to 317 km or 448 km based on European testing standards. It can accommodate four or five passengers and provides up to 403 litres of cargo space, making it a versatile choice for city dwellers.

Kia aims for the EV2 to serve as a gateway model for first-time electric vehicle drivers while remaining practical enough to function as a primary household vehicle. The company has not confirmed whether the EV2 will be available in North America.

As Kia continues to expand its electric vehicle offerings, the introduction of these models reflects a strategic move to cater to diverse market demands while enhancing performance capabilities across its range. The reception of these new models at the Brussels Motor Show indicates a growing interest in sportier electric options, which could reshape consumer perceptions of electric mobility.
