Lord Tweedsmuir Alumni Association Welcomes New Members
The Lord Tweedsmuir Alumni Association (LTAA) is actively inviting new members to join its ranks. The association, which has been a cornerstone for former students, teachers, and community members since its establishment, aims to foster connections and support the ongoing goals of the school.
Alan Clegg, a founding member and the association’s first chairman, emphasized the importance of membership for those looking to reconnect. He noted that many individuals maintain relationships through modern technology, while others who graduated decades ago may find it challenging to keep in touch. “Some people left the school and kept up with modern technology and stayed in touch with their classmates,” Clegg shared. “But there are some classes that went different directions—the school is over a hundred years old—now years later, they’re trying to get together and renew some old friendships.”
Support and Activities for Alumni
Clegg highlighted the association’s role as a central hub for alumni engagement. The LTAA assists in organizing reunions and gatherings, reinforcing a sense of community among former students. “It’s kind of a centre-thing and can help the school and can assist people—whether they’re organizing reunions or get-togethers,” he explained.
Over the years, the association has organized three significant school reunions. The first occurred in 1993, coinciding with the opening of a new high school and the demolition of the old one. The second reunion took place in 2000, celebrating the new millennium, followed by a centennial celebration in 2012. “We celebrated our school’s 100-year anniversary,” Clegg noted, adding that the school is recognized as the oldest secondary school in Surrey.
Currently, there are no large reunions planned, but Clegg mentioned that yearly graduating classes continue to hold their own reunions. “I’m not aware of anything being planned in the immediate future,” he said.
Community Contributions and Membership Costs
The LTAA was formally established as a registered society in 1993. Since then, it has contributed significantly to the school community, providing scholarships to graduating students. Clegg reported that the association has awarded over $120,000 in scholarships since its inception.
Joining the association is cost-effective, with a lifetime membership priced at just $10. Interested individuals can obtain more information or arrange an e-transfer for membership dues by emailing [email protected]. The association is also active on social media, with a presence on Facebook under the handle @LordTweedsmuirSecondaryAlumni.
The Lord Tweedsmuir Alumni Association remains dedicated to maintaining connections and supporting the educational mission of the school, welcoming anyone eager to join their community of alumni.
