Dixon High School Honors James Cocar as Student of the Month
Dixon High School has named James Cocar as its Student of the Month for December 2023. Cocar, a senior at the school, has demonstrated exceptional academic and extracurricular engagement, earning recognition from both peers and faculty.
James, the son of Bunyan and Rachel Cocar, and brother to John Cocar, has shown a particular enthusiasm for his studies. He cites AP Calculus as one of his most engaging classes, describing it as a significant challenge that offers great rewards as he masters complex topics.
Looking ahead, James has ambitious plans for his career post-graduation. He intends to pursue a field in STEM, with a focus on mechanical engineering. Additionally, he aims to maintain his passion for music, expressing a desire to perform professionally by gigging and participating in ensembles. His goal is to dual major in both mechanical engineering and saxophone performance.
Extracurricular Involvement and Community Engagement
Cocar actively participates in various extracurricular activities that reflect his diverse interests. He lists participation in the scholastic bowl and the municipal band as two of his favorite community engagements. These activities not only enhance his academic experience but also allow him to contribute positively to his local community.
A particularly memorable event for James has been performing for younger students in the Dixon Public Schools district. He finds these performances to be inspiring, especially when sharing music through groups like the madrigals. These moments reinforce his commitment to pursuing music alongside his academic aspirations.
Future Aspirations
James envisions a future where he can blend his love for music with a career in engineering. He hopes to create a pathway that allows him to engage in both fields, ultimately aiming to build a fulfilling career that incorporates his passions.
As James Cocar concludes his high school journey at Dixon High School, his achievements and aspirations reflect a bright future ahead, filled with opportunities to explore both the sciences and the arts. His recognition as Student of the Month serves not only as an honor but also as an encouragement for others to pursue their own passions and interests.
