Langley Community Music School Invites Families to Explore Music
The Langley Community Music School (LCMS) is set to host its annual open house, offering children the opportunity to engage with a diverse range of musical instruments, from tubas to violins. Scheduled for March 17, 2024, from 18:00 to 20:00, the Family Intro to Music Night aims to celebrate the joy of music and introduce families to the various programs available at the school. Principal Carolyn Granholm emphasized the event’s focus on fostering a love for music among children and their families.
During the open house, attendees can visit the school’s Rose Gellert Hall, located at 4899 207 St, to meet the faculty, tour the facilities, and discover the school’s offerings. The programs cater to students of all ages and skill levels, featuring genres such as classical, popular, and world music. Granholm described the evening as “all about children,” highlighting its free nature and the lineup of activities that promise to engage the community.
The event will commence with student performances, providing a platform for young musicians to showcase their talents. Participants will also have the chance to explore a variety of instruments firsthand, allowing them to hear, touch, and try their hand at playing. Granholm stated, “There is something for everyone,” reinforcing the inclusive spirit of the evening.
At 19:00, renowned percussionist Bruce Henczel will perform, demonstrating an array of percussion instruments and rhythms from around the world. Granholm expressed her enthusiasm, saying, “It’s always a pleasure to share music with the community, and a joy watching the children having fun learning about and trying different instruments.”
This open house is part of a series of free concerts and community events hosted by LCMS. Upcoming events include Tunes for Tots on May 5, 2024, featuring the Rose Gellert String Quartet, and the LCMS Community Day open house and swap meet on May 9, 2024. Reservations are not required for any of these events.
Established in 1969, LCMS is a non-profit organization and registered charity dedicated to providing high-quality musical education. The institution has gained both national and international recognition for its comprehensive programs, which span from early learning to pre-professional and adult education. Granholm noted that, with community support, LCMS has grown to become one of the largest non-profit music schools in the province.
