Prairie Rose Public Schools Plans for Continued Academic Growth in 2026

Prairie Rose Public Schools (PRPS) aims for another year of significant academic progress in 2026, following a busy and productive 2025. Despite the challenges posed by an election year and the introduction of new board members, Superintendent Reagan Weeks expressed optimism about the division’s ongoing commitment to enhancing student success.

Weeks highlighted the exceptional work of teachers, noting substantial academic growth within the school system. “I think the most exciting thing as can be expected is that our teachers have continued to do really wonderful work with students,” she stated. This commitment has been evident in various initiatives, including the development of the forthcoming Yuill School of Agriculture. This institution will extend the learning pathway from existing agricultural programs like AgPro and the Irvine Agricultural Discovery Centre, allowing students to delve deeper into agricultural studies as they transition to high school.

Enhancing Educational Frameworks

A key focus for PRPS has been the implementation of “vertical curriculum mapping,” a strategy designed to improve coordination among teachers across different grades. This initiative ensures that students enter each classroom equipped with necessary skills, and exit with a strong foundation for future learning. “Teachers have been really excited about the opportunity to collaborate with colleagues teaching the same subjects in a grade, but then also connect that to the grade below and the grade above,” Weeks noted.

The division has also made strides with its new before- and after-school care program, based at Eagle Butte High School. Looking ahead, Weeks anticipates the development of a junior high program focusing on aviation, aimed at engaging students early in their educational journeys.

“We’re continuing to do some deep work in numeracy,” Weeks explained. Teachers are piloting a new curriculum, with an emphasis on feedback to ensure that educators have the resources they need. This initiative aligns with the “Ignite Minds” segment of PRPS’s strategic priorities, which also emphasizes fostering connections and positive childhood experiences.

Building Skills for the Future

Additionally, PRPS is refining its programming to integrate leadership and public speaking components into its micro school offerings. Weeks remarked on the positive impact of 4-H programs, citing the confidence they instill in students, as well as their ability to engage effectively with adults and communicate information compellingly. “That is another piece that we’re looking to further embed into coursework,” she added.

As 2026 approaches, Prairie Rose Public Schools remains dedicated to fostering academic growth and ensuring that students are well-prepared for future challenges. The division’s commitment to innovation and development reflects a broader vision for an educational environment that prioritizes student success and engagement.
