Comox Valley Delivers Over 1,000 Christmas Dinners for Community
The Earl Naswell Community Christmas Dinner achieved remarkable success this year, serving over 1,000 turkey and ham dinners on Christmas Day. Organizers celebrated the event, which took place under clear, sunny skies, allowing delivery crews and drivers to navigate the community with ease.
Each year, the dinner presents a unique set of challenges. The task of preparing such a large quantity of meals is significant, especially in light of rising costs, supply shortages, and logistical hurdles. Chefs dedicated four consecutive days to ensure that everything was ready for the big day, working diligently to overcome these obstacles.
The Society’s directors expressed their deepest gratitude to the hundreds of volunteers who contributed at every stage of this endeavor. These individuals were instrumental in various roles, including fundraising, food preparation, and logistics. Their efforts extended to packing goody bags, assembling dessert trays, and even managing the dishwashing duties. The success of the dinner would not have been possible without the generous backing of local organizations and community members who stepped up once again this year.
In addition to the dinner package deliveries, St. George’s United Church welcomed 100 guests to share in a hot turkey dinner with dessert, fostering a spirit of fellowship. The Society emphasized that this sense of community is essential, stating, “When January arrives and the hampers and Christmas decorations are stored away until next December, the need for support in our community continues every week.”
The message underscores the importance of maintaining connections throughout the year. Community members are encouraged to reach out to those in need or who may be alone. Local organizations work tirelessly year-round to provide assistance, and individuals are urged to consider how they can support these efforts.
As the Earl Naswell Community Christmas Society looks ahead to 2026, the focus remains on nurturing the spirit of Christmas and the fellowship it brings. This year’s success is a testament to the power of community collaboration and the commitment of those who believe in lending a helping hand.
