Lethbridge Polytechnic Surges to Ninth in Canada’s Research Rankings
Lethbridge Polytechnic has achieved significant recognition in Canada’s research landscape, ranking ninth among the nation’s top research colleges, according to a recent report by Research Infosource Inc. This marks an improvement from its previous positions of tenth in 2024 and eleventh in 2023, highlighting the institution’s growing prominence in applied research.
The Vice-President of Academic and Research, Dr. Kenny Corscadden, expressed pride in this accomplishment. He described the recognition as a “remarkable win” for the polytechnic, emphasizing the institution’s competitive edge at the national level over the past three years. “By offering applied learning and research opportunities for students and researchers in a growing number of industry and community-based sectors, Lethbridge Polytechnic is becoming an institution of choice for those interested in making a difference,” he stated.
Growth in Research Initiatives
Lethbridge Polytechnic’s commitment to applied research dates back to 1999, with the establishment of the Aquaculture Centre of Excellence. Over the years, the institution has expanded its research capabilities through the Centre of Applied Research, Innovation and Entrepreneurship (CARIE), focusing on five key areas: agriculture, food and environment; business and technology; health and wellness; justice and public safety; and sciences, social sciences, and humanities.
In 2025, researchers at the polytechnic are collaborating with Dr. Chandra Singh, the Results Driven Agriculture Research chair and director of the Advanced Post-harvest Technology Centre, to develop non-destructive crop testing methods. This initiative underscores the institution’s ongoing efforts to innovate and contribute to practical applications in various fields.
Lethbridge Polytechnic’s achievements are further highlighted by its rankings in specific categories within the report. The institution placed fourth in Artificial Intelligence (AI) Research Partnerships and AI Completed Research Projects. Additionally, it secured second place in Research Intensity Dollars per Researcher, with nearly $190,000, and third in College Research Income, accumulating nearly $9.5 million. The polytechnic also ranked ninth in Research Partnerships.
Research Infosource Inc. is recognized as a credible authority on research and development intelligence in Canada. The organization is noted for its comprehensive rankings of Canadian research universities, hospitals, colleges, and companies.
The upward trajectory of Lethbridge Polytechnic positions it as a leader in applied research, fostering an environment where innovation and education intersect, ultimately benefiting students and the broader community.
