In a statement released on the morning of January 1, Interior Health confirmed that the family of the 2026 New Year’s baby would not be sharing additional details. The announcement highlights a growing sense of community as families celebrate new beginnings in the province.
The Vancouver Coastal Health region also welcomed its first baby of the year shortly after, with an arrival at the Richmond Birth Centre at 1:30 a.m. PT. Parents Haruna and Jian Suzuki celebrated the birth of their baby boy, marking a joyous occasion for the family and the healthcare community.
Additionally, the first baby born in the Fraser Health region arrived at 12:53 a.m. PT at Ridge Meadows Hospital. The health authority confirmed the milestone, and further details about this newborn are yet to be disclosed.
