Ranchman’s Cookhouse & Dancehall to Relocate in 2027
Ranchman’s Cookhouse & Dancehall, an iconic venue in Calgary known for its rich history in country music, is set to relocate in early 2027. The decision comes as the venue has outgrown its current space, which has served the community since 1972. The new location, yet to be disclosed, will be situated along McLeod Trail, a major thoroughfare in Calgary.
Director of marketing, Wendy Daniel, expressed excitement about the move, highlighting that 2026 will be a significant year for the establishment. “We’re planning a full calendar of concerts, community celebrations and special events to recognize what this building has meant to Calgary. We intend to send it off properly, with our stage active and our dance floor full,” Daniel stated.
As Ranchman’s prepares for this transition, the current venue will continue to operate throughout 2026. Following the closure, the site will undergo redevelopment into a mixed-use property. This project is being led by the Deveraux Group of Companies in collaboration with Lansdowne Equity Ventures.
Sameer Remtulla, vice-president of marketing at Deveraux, emphasized the importance of maintaining the character of Ranchman’s during the relocation process. “We have focused on spending the better part of over a year to even think through how to (have Ranchman’s) effectively relocate, to make sure that we can really keep the same character to the space,” Remtulla explained.
The redevelopment plan includes residential buildings situated above commercial spaces, set to break ground in the spring of 2027. Remtulla added, “Our intent is to bring in some retailers and create a really pedestrian-oriented development on the ground level, with a large open-air plaza. Above the commercial will be residential units, including a private amenity centre that will feature an outdoor pool, fitness facility, co-working spaces, and a resident lounge with golf simulators.”
The upcoming move marks a pivotal moment for Ranchman’s Cookhouse & Dancehall, which has played a significant role in Calgary’s cultural landscape. As the community anticipates this change, the venue’s legacy will be celebrated throughout the final year of operations at its current site.
